Commentary:
The event went much better this year than last in terms of organization. Although it didn't work perfectly, the improvement made by Horn/Horn to preselect the "who went first/second" scheme was very helpful. Instead of having one master team sheet, this year each player was responsible for their own score card. It saved us from having to scream across the room what to do each turn. :) The tables and chairs were really top notch and the space and lighting was ample and comfortable. I've heard from many that our playing room was the nicest they'd ever played in. I have to agree. The breakfast buffet that came with our registration was ample and pretty good. Lots of fresh fruit and a wide variety of hot and cold foods. Though I didn't use them myself, I'm told the exercise facilities were good. The one drawback to the Hastings has to be the neighborhood. The hotel has made every effort to make guests feel safe with a locked parking garage, but walking around a night isn't recommended. The hotel was clean and I'm told it hasn't been open as a hotel for very long (in an earlier life, it didn't serve the public so directly). By next year they should have all the wrinkles ironed out. When Judy asked us, we all agreed we'd like the event to be held there again.

On Saturday night, pockets of people headed out for dinner. A group of five, including me, ate at Casmira, an Indian food restaurant about a 10-minute drive from the hotel. We ate like kings and queens and truly enjoyed ourselves. I heard also about a sumptuous seafood restaurant nearby.

All in all, I hope that those of you who missed this year's event will think of showing up next year. The organizers won't always be able to promise such balmy weather (it was downright warm there!).
