Cape Cod Pairs Results

Last night I directed a 3-round pairs tournament at the Radisson Inn Hyannis. A great group of 18 pairs turned out and about 10 other kibbitzers walked around.

With the able assistance of Gregg Foster (wall chart artist, pairs matchuper, word judge) and Joanie Moniz (word judge), it went off with nary a hitch.

The highlight play on the night was in game 1 when John Venditti and Steve Moniz blocked the board by leaving GO going down in the upper right corner. Holding AEONRR?, Elaine and Mike found a FABULOUS 9-letter outplay to the triple that won them the game by four points.

For those who are interested in how I set up the pairs, I took the average of the two ratings to create one pair rating OR if the ratings were more than 100 points apart, dropped down only 100 points from the top rating. These average ratings helped me break the teams into these divisions.
